Thundering Paws needs foster homes for cats and kittens!
Have you ever considered becoming a foster parent to a kitty in need? If so, we would love to talk with you. Foster parents enable us to save more cats and allow our kitties to live in a home environment while they await adoption.
As a foster parent, you will learn the kitty’s personality and help Thundering Paws find a family that is a good match for your foster. You can trust that our experienced Adoption Coordinators will screen applicants to make sure your foster pet goes to a safe, loving home.
We do our best to match kitties in need to the skills and set-up available to each foster home. Some things to consider:
- What can you handle? A happy, healthy older kitten or adult cat who just needs a place to hang until the right adopter comes along? A pair of kittens, or a litter of kittens? Kittens that need to be bottle-fed? Underage kittens that are still with their mom? A shy kitty that needs socialization to become more adoptable? A pet that has medical needs? A cat who loves people but not other cats? We get them all.
- What accommodations do you have for foster pets? Do you have a spare bathroom or bedroom so that they can be kept separate from your other pets for at least the first two weeks?
- Do you already have pets? Are their vaccinations up-to-date? How will they feel about other animals coming into the house? Foster pets can often provide good companionship for your own pets, as long as they are introduced properly.
- Are you able to transport your foster(s) to and from wellness clinics at our facility in Dripping Springs? These are held, by appointment, weekdays with limited Saturday morning availability.
- How much time do you have to devote to socializing your foster? Some kitties require time, patience, and a calm environment. Others adjust quickly and are ready to play.
- Are you willing to clean up after them? Kittens, especially those that are 4 – 8 weeks old, can be messy. They get a lot easier after they are about four months old though, so maybe an older kitten is better?
- Are you able to transport your foster to and from adoption events? These are held at Tomlinson’s stores in Dripping Springs, Lakeway, and Austin.
- Are you tech savvy enough to do zoom meet and greets? Or willing to allow potential adopters to visit your home with an adoption coordinator?
- Last but not least, are you prepared to send your foster pet to its new home? Sometimes it’s difficult to say goodbye to your foster kitty but the void can be filled by fostering another kitty that is in dire need of your love and attention… another kitty that needs a second chance.
As a foster parent, you provide food, water, litter, enrichment, shelter and, most of all, lots of love. Thundering Paws provides vet care, medications (including prescription diets), and all the support you need.
